Knife Sharpening

Our process of hand forging and water quenching the Japanese Hitachi steel, creates a unique combination of holding a very fine, hard edge, while maintaining ease of sharpening. Most knives, if they do hold a fine, hard edge are very difficult to sharpen. However, our Hitachi White #1 steel has an extremely pure, high carbon steel core and is clad with a softer 410 stainless steel. This allows our knives to be more corrosion resistant and easy to sharpen, while maintaining a high Rockwell Hardness, giving our knives a special place in the knife market.

Our Sharpening Service

If your blade is chipped or you would rather send it in to get professional sharpening, don’t hesitate to send it in to us.

Our comprehensive sharpening service includes four steps. First we check the blade for straightness as many blades can become warped over repeated use. Second we regrind the secondary edge for an improved cutting geometry. Third we polish the secondary edge for much a smoother cutting surface to reduce friction. Fourth we re-establish the primary (cutting) edge and hand hone on super fine Japanese water stones.

*At this time, we will only be accepting knives to sharpen Muteki Knives has crafted, so we can focus on production. At some point in the not too distant future, we plan to offer this service for various branded knives that our customers would like to send us.

*Depending on the extent of refurbishment needed, the price of your sharpening could be higher, as well as possible cosmetic changes made to the knife’s appearance, that are necessary to improve it’s overall cutting performance.

*Cloths, paper towels, and other packaging used, may be discarded as we have our own methods of packaging for safe travel to our customers.
